APPENDIX From mformat/on By Jacqueline Christian and Fu/ton Underhay THE MACCORMACK FAMILY Hugh MacCormack and wife Joanna Steele were in Boughton Island for the census of 1798. Four boys and a girl under 16 were with them. The history of this family shows John and Neil as the Boughton Island survivors. Alex Steele is also listed as a settler on Boughton Island in the 1798 census. He had a wife and six children. There was nothing further found about these other pioneers, the Steeles. Neil is listed in 1835 in a conveyance of their lease of 150 acres along with John, son of John and grandson of Hugh, as heirs and assigns of Hugh McCormack. John’s widow, Jane, is the other signatory. Neil married Catherine MacPhee. Their children were Pentallion, John, Christy, Monica and Sarah. John, son of Hugh, married Jane MacPhee of Monticello. Their son John also married a Jane MacPhee. Four of their eight children are recorded. Catherine married A.D. MacPhee. They moved early on to Moose Jaw, Sask. Their children were: Mary Agnes, Genevieve, Mary Anne, Ruth, Rudolf and Hugh MacPhee. Their descendants are Killeens, Kellys, Inglis, Thackrays, Tenneys and MacPhees, living mostly in western Canada. Elizabeth married Roderick Steele of Newport. They had a family of eight. Dominic married Ebby Clough. They had three children. He died in Florida. The surviving progenitor of the island MacCormacks is Dan John. Two boys Hugh and Allan in their twenties were drowned in 1869. The oldest son, Dougald, died at the age of 22. Dan John married Annie Morrison, born in Port Hood, raised in Georgetown. They had five children, three of whom were married with children: 1. John, 2. Dan, 3. Frank, 4. Genevieve 5. Mary IsabeL (1)John,(Jack Dan) married Mary MacLean of De Gros Marsh. He farmed on Boughton, then in Launching and then moved to Souris where he served as mayor of that town. Their children were: Daniel,(Buddy Jack Dan), John(John Jack Dan), Anne (Ready), Therese (Peters,) Susan (Peters) and Jean (MacDonald). (2)Dan, 98
