restrictions were placed on the development such that no further progress has come about. In the year 2004, there are still no lots sold to cottagers on Boughton Island, and as of mid-summer 2004 the island is again on the market priced at 3 million U.S. dollars.

One of the restrictions was planned for visitors. It is a chain-link fence enclosing the Heron colony on the Western part of the island. William Christian in discussing this project with one of his grand- sons, Paul Christian, told him the fence was for the birds. Paul thought about this for a while and then said, “Grampy, those birds will fly right over that fence."

This common-sense approach might have told the developers that property owners of high-end cottages on Boughton Island would not want to have to depend on boat transport to get on and off the island. Nor would they be content to travel on the island on golf carts.
