CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES
A number Of construction companies have Operated in the Bideford area over the years. Ramsay and Phillips which was Operated by Roy Ramsay and Wendell Phillips began in the early 1970’s. A few years later they dis— solved this business and Roy went into business with his sons as Roy Ramsay and Sons Ltd. Two Of Wendell’s sons, Wayne and Jack, began a company called Phillips Brothers Construction Ltd. They did landscap— ing, septic systems, carpentry work and other types of Construction. Other construction companies that have Operated in the area include Albert 0. Sharpe, Peter G. Millar & Sons, Noye Brothers Inc.(Myles and Wade), Craig Construction, Central Prince Contracting Ltd, Noye & Noye Construction Ltd. and David Noye Construction. Besides these compa— nies, there are many individuals who are competent carpenters, electri- cians and plumbers, painters and specialists in other trades.
RESTAURANT
The first restaurant in Bideford was The Wayton Restaurant and Amusement Centre situated alongside Phillips Auto Sales Ltd. on the Ellerslie Road. It first Opened its doors tO the public on July 12, 1971 and was owned by brothers Wayne and Clinton Trowsdale.
The restaurant could seat 40 patrons and the amusement centre had pool tables, shuffleboard and pin ball machines. In July 1973 they dissolved their partnership and Clinton sold his share to Wayne’s wife, Janice. The gamesroom was closed and that area was turned into a hairdressing shop, the Debra—Jo Beauty Salon which was owned and Operated by Debra Cook. The remainder Of the space was renovated into the Oyster Shell Lounge and was the first licensed establishment west of Summerside to serve cocktails. The lounge featured local artists for entertainment on weekends, some Of whom were Roy MacCaull, Ken Enman, Doug Gallant, Patti (nee Frost) Gillis, Debbie and Carl Phillips and Hazel Bulger.
They operated it as a seasonal business until September 1979, at which
